This
orienteering simulation will challenge you to and your staff: This is a dynamic activity focused on communication. You will be challenged physically, emotionally, and mentally. Teams will need to make decisions 'on the fly', keeping a cool head in an ever-changing, competitive environment. One of your most crucial responsibilities will be managing your time. It is up to you to balance the demands of planning and execution. In addition, whatever strategies you develop must be consistent with the Mission, Dynamics and Structure of this simulation. As well, cohesive teamwork is an essential component and objective of this simulation. Task success will require no more strenuous activity than walking or hiking. Your team task involves using a G.P.S. unit, topographic maps, commercial grade Motorola 5 watt 2-way radios, written and verbal instructions, a set of clues, and a pen to find flags on a tract of land. Your 'field team' will be scouring the terrain to find the hidden flags while back at "Command Central", 2 of your teammates are the eyes and ears relaying the information that they have (i.e. maps with specific locations and clues) via 2-way radios. Teams in the field possess a blank map, a G.P.S. unit (with pre-existing coordinates entered) and a 2-way radio and that's it! It's the entire team's objective to communicate effectively and efficiently via a 2- way radio in order to steer the "field team" in the right direction so they can "capture the flag". Each specified GPS landmark has 2 flags per location; therefore once the 2 flags are captured, teams must switch directions immediately to one that has not yet been eliminated. Landmarks represent "projects" and are categorized under 4 levels of difficulty. Difficulty depends on the distance traveled and the relative obscurity of the point. Successful accomplishment of these projects results in securing the flag and, therefore, its point value. Field teams can expect to walk between 1 and 3 miles during this low-impact activity. As there is no running allowed, all teams in the field will remain as 1 unit while on their quest. This program is easily incorporated in both an "urban setting" as well as in the backcountry, depending on your group's needs and goals. Customized programs, and specific quotes are available, based on size of group, hours, budget and lead-time. |
